Sun Koshi River Rafting - Nepal
Raft the Sun Koshi River in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains and the top of the world. Nepal is a beautiful country ranging in elevation and topography from the cold, steep, desolate mountains of the Himalayas' in the north ( topped by Mt Everest at 29,035 feet) to the Indian plateau and wildlife filled jungles in the south. Join us for this journey down the Sun Koshi River and experience all this country has to offer as we float 170 miles from the foothills of the grandest mountains on earth into the jungles and eventually the plateau flats near northern India.
The Sun Kosi is generally considered one of the top ten white water trips in the world for it’s spectacular combination of white water, scenery, incredible camping, and culture filled stops. Sun Kosi literally means "River of Gold" and this mighty trip holds its true riches for anyone willing to give it the time. The trip begins with two days in Kathmandu recovering from jet lag, seeing local sights, and generally experiencing the wonder and history this bustling city has to offer. After the two days in the city we begin the rafting trip at Dolalghat, a short three hour bus ride from Kathmandu. Here you can wave goodbye to roads or towns because it is just big rapids, warm water, beautiful scenery and sandy beaches for the next 8 days. The first couple of days will give us the opportunity to loosen up our arms and re-gain our kayaking skills as we have mostly class II and III rapids. Thankfully the rapids on this river increase in difficulty as the days go on so there is plenty of time to warm up before we get into the big stuff. Like most Orange Torpedo Trips rivers the character of the Sun Koshi rapids is pool-drop; with a big rapid followed by a large slow moving section of water at the bottom. For those who have done our Main or Lower Salmon river trips in the earlier parts of the July, this is comparable. After a long day of rafting let the guides pamper you with a cup of tea and biscuit while you lounge on the pristine white sand beaches and take in the surroundings. You deserve it. As on all Orange Torpedo trips your appetizing evening meal will be made by the local guides while you sit by the fire and read, go for a stroll, or just take in the incredible surroundings.
