Main Salmon River Travel Information
Accomodations
The day you fly out of Boise (example: if your trip is on July 17th you will fly out of Boise on July 16th) you need to make a reservation at the Stagecoach Inn in Salmon Idaho. Call (208) 756-2919 to make your reservation and mention you are with Orange Torpedo Trips. At the conclusion of the the trip, you will be taken to the Holiday Inn in Boise, which offers complimentary trips to the airport for flights the next day. To make reservations, contact the hotel at 800-238-8000.
Airlines
You will fly in on one of the multiple air carriers that serve Boise. You will need to check in at the McCall Air Desk by 1:00 PM the day before your rafting trip starts. (The desk is located next to the baggage claim, ground floor, Main Terminal.) The McCall Air flight is included in the cost of your trip unless you opt to transport yourself to Salmon. Note from McCall Air: We ask that each customer come with no more than one medium- or two small-sized bags that weigh no more than a total of 35 lbs. Large hard-sided luggage will not fit.
Other Transportation Options
If you want to save a little money you can opt to not use Salmon Air. If you live within driving distance you can transport yourself to Salmon Idaho and then have your car shuttled from the Stagecoach in Salmon to Carry Creek Takeout near Riggins Idaho. Please use Salmon River Shuttles and let them know you are an Orange Torpedo Trips customer. They can be reached at 800-831-8942. If you have a large group there are some other charter options which can dramatically impact the transportation price of your trip. Please call for details.
Packing Information
At the trip put-in the guides will hand out some items for the trip. The first item is a dry bag (18"x36"), which is about the size of a medium duffle. This is where all of your personal items for the trip will go, including your sleeping bag, so pack conservatively. These dry bags will be riding in your boat, and when sealed correctly, they will not leak. However, if sealed incorrectly, they may let water in. We strongly suggest that all items of significant value, such as expensive jewelry, be left at home. We will also supply a day bag to store items like cameras for easy access during the day. When packing, consider your susceptibility to sunburn and pack on-the-water clothing to match. Nylon pants can be great on-the-water clothing that help prevent sunburn. For a more detailed list of what to bring please see our packing list page on the website.
