River Boarding the Rogue River 1-day Itinerary
Your day of river boarding starts at 9:30 AM at the Rogue River Center located at 210 Merlin Rd, Merlin Oregon. Exit Interstate 5 at exit 61 and drive 3.2 miles west. We are on the right hand side of the road. At the Rogue River Center you will meet your instructor and get fitted for PFD’s, wet-suits, and helmets, before having the chance to buy any last minute items like sunscreen or straps for your sunglasses. When everyone has everything the group will load into the vans for the short 15 minute ride to the famous Rogue River.
At Ennis boat launch we will quickly launch the support raft before heading below Ennis riffle to gear up and get in the water. When everyone is geared up the instructor will explain some basics of how to use the board before ensuring everyones equipment fits and starting the float in the first big flat section. During the Ennis still water you will have an opportunity to get familiar with the board, the fins, and how to get around the river before entering the first class II rapid, Upper Galice. In upper and lower Galice rapids you will ride your river board down the Galice chutes learning to match the board to the waves to maximize your ride and keep from getting splashed in the face.
In the next few rapids we will work on starting to catch eddies and ride some eddie lines before drifting into the riverside lunch. Remember, you can always hop on the raft in the flats if you want a break from floating in the river.
After you have stuffed your self on cookies from the local Merlin Bakery we start down river and head towards exciting rapids like Chair riffle and Almeda rapid. Chair has eddie lines perfect for playing on the river board and Almeda opens up some opportunities to try and surf.
The day concludes with the largest rapid, Argo. Argo rapid will certainly bring a smile to your face. This slightly technical rapid will test your skills learned from your day on the river board before floating into the takeout.
Remember, after taking our one day river boarding trip you qualify to come in and rent the equipment for yourself.
