Klamath River Youth Orgaznization Rafting Itinerary
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: With organized groups who generally have their own transportation it is often easier to meet the guides and equipment at the put-in in Happy Camp. Our booking agents will help you make sure this is the best route, but the majority of the time it works best. At the put-in on the Klamath River your head guide will quickly work with the trip organizer to ensure all youth are in the right type of boat for the trip. The head guide will then give a thorough safety and paddling orientation before heading downstream towards the many Class II and III rapids. The group will also receive the dry bags at this time. The dry bags are where everyone will store their personal items for the trip. Please see the packing list and the travel information for more details. Today has some great white water to get the kids going along with some wonderful swimming holes. Class III rapids such as Kanaka, Devils Toenail and The Trench will help work up an appetite for lunch. Around lunchtime the group will pull over for the first riverside lunch. After lunch the group will continue down through more thrilling Klamath River white water before finding a nice beach for camping.
Evenings in camp are an ideal time to carry out your organizations goals. If you are Boy Scouts we are experienced helping fascilitate merit badge completion and for other organizations this is perfect time for games, swimming, group meetings, or mentoring. Nights on the beach offer a unique distraction free time with your kids.
Day 2: After breakfast, take your time packing your gear and lathering on the sunscreen while the guides pack the rafts. Today is another day of Klamath River rapids such as Ferry Point and Independence Creek along with some great swimming and perhaps even a side hike. Picture your kids, swimming, laughing, smiling, and creating memmories they will cherrish for years to come.
Sometime in the early afternoon the group will arrive at the takeout. Do some final swimming and say goodbye to the Klamath River while the guides pack up the gear and get ready to drive back.
Boats
As on most of our trips we offer a variety of river craft to choose from. Orange Torpedo Trips is best known for inflatable kayaking with 80% of our guests choosing this as the way to go down the river, but on this trip we offer 3 types of river craft on this trip.
Torpedo Learn to paddle your own inflatable kayak (Torpedo). We have guides in “Torpedo’s” teaching you how to paddle and leading you through the rapids in a 4 to 1 ratio. If you happen to fall out the guides have you out of the river in seconds. 40+ years of doing this and and tens of thousands of satisfied returning customers prove that it is fun and safe. These can be great for youth organizations as most teenagers love a little freedom.
Paddle Raft A more traditional type of rafting, paddle rafts are a great way to go if you still want to do some work, but think the torpedo is just a little to much. These are perfect for team building. The group works together to power the boat while the guide sits in the back to help navigate.
Oared Raft Hop on an oared raft and ride in luxury. This is the relaxed way to travel. If taking in the scenery and letting the guide do the work is how you vacation then hop on board. This is how kids 4-11 years old will usually travel, safe and exciting.
